The Spanish War Memorial

The arrangements for the Spanish War were done by a committee from Sergeant Frank E. Draper camp of United Spanish War Veterans along with the Mayor Leon M. Conwell as well as the Board of Aldermen. It was dedicated to the 700 volunteers who fought in the Spanish War of 1898. The sculptor of the monument was Raymond A. Porter. The casting was done by T.F McGann and Sons Company of Village Street Somerville. It cost 10,000 dollars which in today’s money is about 165,000 dollars.
