Barcode Journeys Zine Workshop with Barbara JO

  • Somerville Museum One Westwood Road Somerville, MA 02143 (map)

Zines ("zeenez") are great little booklets you can make super fast. They are small artworks and stories about something important to you.

ZInes originate from self-published science fiction fanzines from the 1930s. When copy machines became widely available in the 1970s the DIY zines became popular in punk culture to spread ideas outside of mainstream media and forms of self-expression, community building, and activism.

We'll provide paper for an 8-pg version for you to make your own zine that you can print out and share with others. Zines, each with their own personality, capture culture and art, and can highlight something someone feels passionate about or give voice to forgotten histories. For this workshop we encourage you to write about a barcode themed story, experience, ideas, or technology in general.

Recommended for ages 8 and up
