A Narrative History of Somerville’s Brickbottom Neighborhood

Brickbottom resident Randal Thurston shares the history of Somerville’s Brickbottom neighborhood including changes in geography, the ebb and flow of industry, the change in character from a neighborhood to an industrial zone, the impact of railroad, the building of the McGrath/Obrien highway, and the proposed inner belt on the neighborhood and the forming of the Brickbottom Artist Building. He will also discuss the razing of the neighborhood dwellings in 1955, the relocation of the Greek community who lived there, and the various plans the city has developed that may determine our future.
