Genealogy: Finding Your Italian Family

GaetaUsing the Family History Library to search for family in Gaeta [PDF]

Do a Google Search first. Search a town's name and it sometimes shows you the town records.

The Family History Library

The Family History Library provides indexes to all civil records available in microfilm. After locating the microfilms you need, you can order them online to be picked up at a Family Search Center. Each center has microfilm machines where you can review the records, and staff available to help you.

In the Family History Library search for the town you are interested in.

A search for Gaeta leads to a list of towns for which records are available

Select Civil Records to see a summary of those records. Then click on the link to View Film Notes (upper right) or on the link to the printable version of those records (bottom of page).

For each set of records, an FHL (Family History Library) film number is provided.

To order the films on-line, go to 'Search the Catalogue', then click on 'loaned' to order films. Follow the directions posted. Have them sent to whichever center is convenient for you

Locate a Family SearchCenter nearby:

At the Center you can also access for free (otherwise $24.95 for 6 months). Many film notes of Avellino, Italy are available on-site.

Because the Family History Library Centers are staffed by volunteers who may not always be available, be sure to call first before you go to view films.

Call or visit the Lynnfield Family History Library if you need any assistance with searching or ordering:
